Student Experience and Enhancement Services
SEES has a remit to enhance the experience of our applicants and students through the provision of high quality support services, the implementation of efficient and effective business processes, and through the development of policies and strategies to achieve the University’s strategic objectives. SEES is one of the nine Professional Services areas within the University. SEES works closely with Faculties and Schools and is managed by the Director of SEES, and overseen by the University Secretary.

- Student Business - Graduations and Transcripts - Systems and Data Student Support Wellbeing and Disability Service Widening Access Chaplaincy Careers Service Equality and Diversity Education Enhancement Education Strategy Education Strategy Committee Commitment to delivering an Outstanding Student Experience Quality Assurance Quality Assurance Committee Academic Policy Strategic Projects Learning Enhancement Learning Enhancement Committee Learning Technologies Student Surveys Student Experience covers the main student facing services that students are likely to want or need while they are at university. Student Lifecycle maintains student records, processes admissions applications, handles student registration, produces exam timetables and creates transcripts and certificates. Student Support and Wellbeing covers a range of services including: information and on Visas and support for international students; student financial support with respect to any funding difficulties, emergency aid, tuition fees; student health information, advice and support; one-to-one student counselling. Disability Service provides advice, guidance and support to students with a disability or additional support need, assisting with and recommending support strategies, providing support for assistive technologies and equipment and working with academic teams to implement appropriate adjustments and supporting strategies. Widening Access works with schools, colleges and university staff to increase opportunities at the University of Strathclyde for people from widening access backgrounds (removal of barriers for groups of students who are under-represented in HE, including those from a school who traditionally sends a low proportion of pupils directly to University; those living in the 40% most disadvantaged neighbourhoods, those who have spent time in care and those returning to Education later in life. Chaplaincy – a multi-faith centre for those of all faiths and none, with facilities to worship, socialise and relax, as well as a café. Careers Service – provides careers education, information, advice and guidance, with career planning support, job vacancies for part-time and vacation work and job seeking and application skills. Equality and Diversity takes forward University strategies to support and develop Equality and Diversity, working in partnership with the University community to embed effective practices that support Equality and Diversity. Education Enhancement – brings together Learning Technology Enhancement (LTE), Learning Enhancement & Quality Assurance. To enable the continuous development and improvement of learning and teaching at Strathclyde. Education Strategy - Our collective vision for Strathclyde is of a leading international technological university inspired by its founding mission as ‘the place of useful learning’, that makes a positive difference to the lives of its students, to society and to the world. Our Education Strategy is articulated through our commitment to delivering an Outstanding Student Experience through education which is innovative, collaborative and inclusive, designed to provide an intellectually stimulating environment, informed by and interlinked with our strengths in research and knowledge exchange. Student Experience covers the main student facing services that students are likely to want or need while they are at university. Student Lifecycle includes ‘Student Business’ and ‘Graduations and Transcripts’ and covers student records, processes admissions applications, handles student registration, produces exam timetables and creates transcripts and certificates. Careers Service – provides careers education, information, advice and guidance, with career planning support, job vacancies for part-time and vacation work and job seeking and application skills. Disability Service provides advice, guidance and support to students with a disability or additional support need, assisting with and recommending support strategies, providing support for assistive technologies and equipment and working with academic teams to implement appropriate adjustments and supporting strategies. Also responsible for committee management of ESC, LEC, QAC and Senate. Student Surveys is part of Education Enhancement. The University runs a number of different surveys throughout the academic year to help us gather information about the student experience at Strathclyde. Surveys such as the NSS and DLHE are statutory returns and are used in league tables and for Higher Education planning and policy at national level. All survey feedback is distributed to contacts in University departments and schools in order to evaluate our provision and identify areas of good practice as well as areas for improvement Student Support and Wellbeing covers a range of services including the University Chaplaincy (a multi-faith centre for those of all faiths and none, with facilities to worship, socialise and relax, as well as a café.), the Disability Service (as above), Student Financial Support, International Student Support, the Student Counselling Service, Student Health and Study Skills. SEES also manages the Glasgow Children’s University at Strathclyde in partnership with Glasgow City Council which enables children to explore different learning environments and aims to raise aspirations, boost achievement and encourage a love of learning. Myplace – the single virtual learning environment (VLE) for the University
Now, Myplace is embedded, pervasive ubiquitous presence. Part and parcel of teaching, learning and the student experience, from student communications, online assignment submission, timely return of marks and feedback, provision of course materials to collaborative group work, online exams, tutorial group signup, peer and self assessment We’ve gone from having isolated pockets of innovation to one where all subject areas benefit from a comprehensive suite of tools and strategic developments or local innovations can be shared and adopted across the institution.
