1. LGBT History Month
LGBT History Month is celebrated in February of every year. Student Unions and other organisations up and down the country get involved, putting on a full line up of events to commemorate the month. During the month you can expect to see film screenings (think Pride, Milk, etc), through to discussion events around things such as Faith and sexuality, through to social events.

2. Postgraduate Coffee Morning
Postgraduate coffee morning are a great way of getting postgrad students together to discuss their ideas or research. They provide a great space for students to get to know each other, and provide a more chilled out space for people to chat.

3. This Girl Can
This Girl Can is a campaign ran by Sport England to encourage more women to get involved in sport. They found that many women wanted to do more sport, but faced both emotional and practical barriers. The campaign seeks to liberate women from their worries about getting involved in sport. Other Universities have got involved with the This Girl Can campaign, such as Exeter, Plymouth, and Bradford Student’s Union.

4. theBEseries
theBEseries at the University of Oregon is a series of talks that aims to help students realise the connectedness of their personal, academic, and professional lives. Speaker series are a great way to engage with a number of students on a broad range of topics!

5. Global Cafe
Delivered by the University of Leeds and supported by Leeds University Union, Global Cafe is an event where International students and UK students get to meet up and chat over free tea and coffee. It’s a great place to make new friends from all over the world and improve your language skills! It’s ran weekly, meaning every week there’s a chance to meet new people or catch up with the people you met the week before.

6. Feminist Book Club
Feminist book clubs are popping up all over the place – whether it’s among groups of friends, organised by student societies, or the one championed by Emma Watson! They’re a great way to share knowledge, understanding and experiences.

7. Library Kids Corner
Sheffield Hallam SU worked with their University to create a ‘Kids Corner’ in the library. The space was filled with dedicated children’s books for ages ranging from toddlers to juniors. Not only did this mean that children had easier access to an education, but it also helped Sheffield Hallam’s student parents who brought their children in to the library when studying.

8. #RefugeesWelcome
As the refugee crisis worsened last year, students around the country took action. Students organised things like collections for crates going to Calais, Greece and Turkey, public demonstrations, banner drops and language classes. They also lobbied their local Councils to accept more refugees, and petitioned their Universities to provide scholarships.

All you need to do is answer a few questions about yourself and what you’d like to do. If you’re successful, we’ll ask you in to pitch your idea. If your project is chosen we’ll employ you for up to 30 days (over the course of the academic year) to deliver your project!
