2 What is an Annotated Bibliography?
An annotation is a summary and evaluation of your source. An annotated bibliography includes a summary, evaluation and reflection of each of the sources in your bibliography.

3 What is the point? The purpose of research is to generate and support a thesis, therefore, an annotated bibliography is helpful because it: Prevents you from collection information without a purpose. It forces you to assess information. It provides your reader with evidence of your process. It helps you organize your sources and recall their importance.

4 The Three Major Items When writing your annotations you must:
summarize. What is the point of this source? What topics are covered? If someone asked what this article/book is about, what would you say? assess. How is this source helpful? Is this information reliable/biased/objective? reflect. What role does this source play in your argument? How can this source be used? Does this source change the way you view your argument?

5 Annotated Bibliographies must be:
in complete sentences in third person in paragraph form at the end of MLA citation for that source several sentences. The exact length will vary by the writer, but four to five sentences should suffice.

8 Student Example Warren, W. L. Henry II. Great Britain: U of California P, This comprehensive biography is an extremely detailed, well- written work based on an enormous multitude of research. It has proved to be a vital, unending source of information, particularly about political and military ideas. Due to its immense size, however, not all information is relevant and it is easy to get carried away in its numerous pages. It also appears to be slightly biased against Henry II in comparison to other sources.
