5. Convergent Boundary- plates collide, 3 of them due to the type of plate material
2 ocean plates (basalt) converge
both will go down into the mantle destroying rock
subduction zone
trenches and volcanoes
these volcanic islands are called
island arc

6. 1 ocean plate (basalt) 1 continental plate (granite) converge
subduction zone- ocean plate will go down into the mantle destroying rock
trenches and volcanoes
these volcanic mountains are
called a volcanic arc
example- Andes Mountains

7. 2 continental plates (granite) converge
neither goes down into the mantle
folded mountains
example- Himalayas
earthquakes

8. Transform Faults (strike-slip)
2 plates slide past each other horizontally
no mountains are created

example- San Andreas fault
