Starter of the day What is an accordion book binding (draw or explain)? What is a section stitch book binding (draw or explain)? What is a suminagashi print? What is a screen print? What is a mono print? These are our major projects we have accomplished so far. Which one was your favorite and why? Which one was your least favorite and why?

Day 14 Printmaking Engraving self-portraits

Agenda Talk about the previous days assignment.
Demonstrate steps to shading a face with hatching and cross hatching. Make sure Mrs. Francesconi has your selfie so you can start or she will take a photo of you here in class. We will begin our engravings today.

Last time We did a test print and wrote down our notes on how to make a mono print. Once done we made 3 of our 4 mono print thumbnails that we worked on the time before.

Dry point engraving prints

Step 1 Put you black and white photo under your Plexiglas.

Step 2 Tape it in place so it does not move while you are doing you dry point.

Step 3 Begin scratching into the Plexiglas using hatching or cross hatching to create gradation. Hint: The image will look like a negative before printing.

Step 4 Add ink to your plate with newspaper

Step 5 Clean off excess ink with cheesecloth & newspaper.

Step 6 Soak paper in water for 5-8 minutes & pat dry.
You should do this while you are inking so it is ready once your are.

Step 7 Run the print through the printing press.

Studio time 1st make sure you are not missing anything, if you are get that done first to catch up. 2nd make sure you have sent in your self-portrait to Mrs. Francesconi or you will be getting your picture done today. 3rd hatch and cross hatch your image onto the Plexiglas using visa vie markers. Once done check off with Mrs. Francesconi so you can begin engraving.

Things to turn in… Turn in your starter assignment.
Turn in anything that you were missing that you completed today. Turn in your Plexiglas piece that you were working on today.
