Abstract Air pollution has aggravated mankind for hundreds of years. Its impact is local, regional and sometimes global. Adverse effects include plant damage, lung and eye irritation, and death. Local, state and federal agencies regulate emissions in order to protect the public health. They have needed to exercise ever stricter controls and regulations as human activity has increased its impact on the environment. The Bay Area recorded its worst regional air pollution in In 2004, the Bay Area enjoyed its best air quality ever. We met nearly all national and state air quality standards.
