1 Score Four: Exploring with Maps
This presentation can be used to lead students through the use of interactive maps that are available on two Maryland State agency websites – the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Planning. This presentation just touches the tip of what can be explored with these maps. Another excellent map resource is the MERLIN Interactive Mapper ( It provides easily understood directions. Symbols represent stream surveys done by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Click on them to learn the who, what, where’s, etc.

You can find what watershed the school is in. The visibility of the map layers can be adjusted by using the slide bar under contents. This is 100% visibility.

Land Use and Land Cover Maps and data enable students to search for connections between watershed health and landuse. Historical maps provide insights into land-use changes from 1970s. Or google Maryland landuse maps
