Direct Internet 3 Allows users with a data capable Iridium phone (or LBT) and computer to access the Internet through the Iridium Gateway
Direct Internet 3 software is required to connect to Iridium’s Direct Internet server.

3. How does Direct Internet 3 acceleration work?
Direct Internet 3 uses Slipstream technology
SlipStream uses patented acceleration, compression and network optimization to enhance the online experience for dial-up while significantly reducing bandwidth requirements.
SlipStream uses adaptive data compression, combined with caching and network optimization, to streamline text, graphics, Flash and Web-based s, including attachments.
SlipStream technology features industry-leading loss and lossless compression algorithms, achieving compression of HTML and XML of up to 50 times.

4. Direct Internet 3 speed vs. standard dial-up
AppLabs Technologies, an independant lab, compared the Web browsing acceleration performance of SlipStream over dial up Internet access to that of standard Web browsing over non-accelerated dial up Internet access.
The results indicate that for dial up Internet access significantly improved the time to deliver Web pages over the Internet when compared to non- accelerated browsing:
Average acceleration gain of 5.45x (faster)
On Iridium, this increases the effective data speeds from 2.4kbps to 13kbps
