6 Battle of Lexington and Concord

7 Battle of Lexington and Concord

8 Battle of Lexington and Concord
“the shot heard ‘round the world” Using the lines provided in your notes summarize what happened in these “Battles”

9 Green Mountain Boys Led by Ethan Allen, this group of militia took the British Fort Ticonderoga at Lake Champlain. The growing momentum allowed the committees of correspondence to recruit more volunteers for the militias. (20,000 in Boston alone) The Revolution was in full swing.

10 The Battle of Bunker Hill (June 16, 1775)
1,200 militia set up fortifications across from Boston on Breed’s Hill. (This battle is actually misnamed.) The British charged the militia three times before the colonists finally ran out of gunpowder. The colonists were forced to retreat but the Redcoats took heavy casualties.

11 The Battle of Bunker Hill

12 The British Advance on Bunker Hill

13 Who won this battle? British?? Colonists
Took control of the area surrounding Boston. Drove the colonists from their position of power. Colonists Held off the British until ammunition ran out. If not for this they would have held their lines. Killed or injured over 1,000 Redcoats. Felt they could defeat the Redcoats if properly armed and trained.
