2006 SIPP (Schlumberger Injury Prevention Program with NOTE TO INSTRUCTORS: As the instructor if you may wish to run this presentation from your laptop hard disc rather than the CD. Instructors: Make a clear statement of the following: "The name "WorkSMARRT" refers to the overarching approach Schlumberger will use to apply concepts generally known as behavior-based safety.  But Schlumberger will use these concepts for the management of Quality and Service Delivery as well as for the traditional application to HSE.  Under the WorkSMARRT umbrella, for instance, will be behavioral programs applied to Stepping, Handling and Lifting, and Driving in the short term.  Eventually, the behavioral approach will be used to address all areas of risk exposure."   Injury Prevention and the Schlumberger Injury Prevention Program Level 2 training both use the WorkSMARRT concepts, and we will cover these concepts today in this class.

Accountability Communication The ability to RECOGNIZE those things that are under your circle of influence comes from the training and knowledge of the programs and procedures that are used in Schlumberger. It is not just one program that will help you understand your Circle of Influence but the combination of the many programs and procedures that relate to what you are doing. It is this combination of programs that will help us to RESPOND to those situations that would fall into the Circle of Concern.  In other words it is the combination of Schlumberger programs that give us the two R's, Recognize and Respond,  which when used together will help us to WorkSMARRT.” A simple analogy of how these programs work together Schlumberger is like an old time milking stool. You sit on the stool to support you as you are milking the animal. Due to the many jobs in Schlumberger we have come to recognize that the seat of the stool is the combination of our training programs and procedures. It does not really matter what program we are resting on as long as we know that it is supported by three legs that are strong and can compensate for the uneven ground that we must use the stool on. Click The program we will be talking about today is the Schlumberger Injury Prevention Program. The first leg of support is Accountability. We are responsible for our own actions. The second leg is Risk Management. We must make sure that the actions we take are safe and hazard free. In order to accomplish that we must plan our tasks. The third leg is Communication. This comes with doing the task the right way every time. But it also comes full circle back to accountability in that we must watch out for our team mates and make sure they don’t get hurt and if we see them doing something other than the Schlumberger way we must intervene and coach them on the safer method.

Increased awareness of hazards in the workplace Working safer, smarter and with less strain by eliminating the risks associated with workplace activities. Protecting ourselves and others through positive intervention. Performing activities better while at work, at home and leisure in order to help strengthen the Schlumberger 24/7 safety culture. The six bullets appearing on this slide are the building blocks of the SIPP Program. Make sure that each bullet is introduced.

4 2006 One of the better ways to avoid injury from muscle strains is to warm up before you work. In order to help you with this Schlumberger has developed a program of 12 exercises to help you to “Warm Up To Work”. During any given day muscles and joints are used in concert to move the body through space. It is muscles and joints, along with the central nervous system, that allow us to perform all aspects of movement . The importance of muscle tone and flexibility to any employee are as crucial as proper lubrication is to an internal combustion engine. Given optimum stretch and lubrication of muscles and joints respectively, the human work plant is able to function at a more efficient level. While functioning with greater efficiency, the potential for loss is reduced. Whether this loss is by virtue of injury to an employee, or decreased productivity their manifestations are costly to both employees and employers. The fast paced lives we lead leave very little room for error. This project is geared to you, as employees of Schlumberger, promoting a healthier fit between you and your job. The core of this project is centered around a brief 10 minute stretch program to be performed in the morning and in the afternoon. The stretching exercises are simple to perform, yet their resultant effects are capable of lasting a lifetime. We all perform stretching exercises automatically to prepare for greater movement. Upon awakening in the morning it is not uncommon for someone to raise their arms above their head and push for the ceiling, and then pull the shoulder blades together, this is stretching in it’s purest form. This is the core of this project. If one elevates the internal temperature of the body, he has greater flexibility in some given plane of motion. And with the greater degree of flexibility comes a decreased zone for strain, sprain, and or injury which is not an invited guest at home or in the workplace.

We can improve each of these areas by utilizing good techniques. Each of the techniques can be utilized by just simply making a small change in body position that either will improve power, balance, or stability to help us maintain control in our daily tasks. Safety should be 24/7, not just something we do at work Instructors: Read the slide slowly and out loud…then pause and say something like… The indirect benefit to Schlumberger of your SIPP expertise is a reduction of accidents…the benefit to you in the short-term is the possibility that the SIPP Techniques may prevent YOUR ACCIDENT!!! But the thing you should keep in mind is that the long-term benefit of your SIPP Techniques practices is 10, 20 or even 30 years from now when your body is in much better shape to enjoy a retirement because you learned how to take better care of it today! Don’t keep these techniques a secret. If you have people at home to care about, share it with them!

2006 Applicable to all Activities… We conclude our program today with our final emphasis on WorkSMARRT and our responsibility to recognize and respond. Injury Prevention is just one of the many programs we use to work smart in our daily lives. We must use SIPP and all the other programs to recognize and respond to the risks we encounter no matter what our tasks or activities in Schlumberger and in life may be. We do this because we owe it to our selves and we owe it to our families.
