Macromolecules
2
Carbon One of the most important elements found in living things Has 4 valence electrons which means it can form 4 bonds with other carbon atoms or other elements such as hydrogen (H), oxygen (O), phosphorous (P)
3
Lipids Does not have monomer or polymer
Atoms: carbon, hydrogen and a few oxygen Does not have monomer or polymer Main parts are called fatty acids 1. They make up the cell membranes 2. Store/provide energy
4
Nucleic Acids Monomer: nucleotides Polymer: DNA(double strand)
Atoms: carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and phosphorous. Monomer: nucleotides (3 parts to a nucleotide: sugar, phosphate group, and a nitrogenous base) Polymer: DNA(double strand) RNA (single strand) They store and transmit instructions for building and maintaining a living thing
