Agenda Trends in IT Disaster Recovery Trends Legal IT Data Center
Concerns for Law Firms Why is DR important to law firms? Zerto Virtual Replication Overview Architecture Consistent Protection for Legal Applications: Virtual Protection Group Reduce Risk through Automation: Failover, Failback, Recovery Case Study: Woodforest National Bank Zerto Overview Summary Questions
3
IT Trends Virtualization and the cloud increase flexibility and agility Reducing costs and doing more with less is a common theme Need to be able to react to changing business and technical requirements fast to retain a competitive advantage
4
What Did Virtualization Change?
Replication - Is In The WRONG Place! It should be above the resource abstraction layer, in the hypervisor APP APP APP OS OS OS Hypervisor Servers Networking Security Replication Jenn Xerox Internal Use Only – Xerox Confidential – Xerox Third Party Confidential – Xerox Personal Confidential

Disaster Recovery Trends
Virtualization – people implement this strategy for reduced costs, better flexibility and to react to changing business requirements faster Have good people in house Protect Applications, not just data End-users need access to the application, not just the data to be productive What are people looking for? Something so simple it takes care of itself Take control of the infrastructure, no need to outsource to reduce costs One solution across the environment, reduce complexity Minimize coordination points
6
Legal IT – The Data Center
Several specialties within a law firm mean there are several applications to manage and maintain Real Estate, Criminal Law, Family Law, etc Each has a completely different CRM system, there is not one true application to service the entire law firm Applications are large – 2 – 20+ VMs per application Acquiring and integrating new firms and their technologies is a constant struggle Leveraging a consulting organization or other 3rd party to manage their infrastructure increases costs
7
What are the top concerns for a law firm?
Billable hours: Anything that impacts the ability to charge a client is not going to be tolerated Low RPOs are needed: Billable increments can be as small as 5 or 15 minutes Data loss of 30 minutes could mean a client does not get billed at all Application performance: The application needs to be protected, but if the performance is impacted in anyway, it isn’t worth it Reduce Risk: A complex plan means risk, simplicity is key Documented success – shockingly, law firms don’t trust much – they want to see that the DR plan works – often Application consistency, write-order fidelity Support for several offices: Large law firms have several offices, application and information sharing across offices and locations is required Consistent protection of a complex, legal application If someone spent one hour putting in case notes and the site goes down – this work could be lost – that is huge for a law firm. Hit on Josh’s key points – low RPOs! Reduce risk – application consistency – need to be able to recovery an application, write-order fidelity is key.
8
Requirements for Legal IT
Aggressive SLAs – lost data or the ability to do work means lost revenue Recovery Point Objectives must be very low – in the seconds Application Protection – ability to protect and recover an application as a whole, even with multiple VMs Disaster Recovery Testing – the board and/or partners want documentation and proof of availability Ease of use – Prefer one product to manage and maintain First two points align with Josh’s top concerns – be sure to include them.

Before – Complex, Manual Replication Process
Example - Current replication configuration process for virtualized billing app Local vCenter Remote vCenter Locate all VMs affecting App Map & Document All LUNs Zza Create and document recovery plan Test recovery plan Complex! Virtualization Team Locate all VM Datastores Consolidate VMs on separate LUN Storage Inflexible! Move all other app VMs to other LUNs Consolidate all VMs to same LUN Document all LUN properties Jenn to do this slide Replication Management Storage Team Manual! Configure all replication pairs and entities Verify replication status On going replication monitoring Remote Storage Ensure sufficient space for replica Allocate LUNs in replica with same properties

After – Simple, one-click BC/DR
Example - Current replication configuration process for virtualized CRM Local vCenter Locate all VMs affecting CRM Locate all VMs affecting CRM Map & Document All LUNs Zza Configure verify replication and policies Create and document recovery plan Test recovery plan Virtualization Team Remote vCenter On going replication monitoring Locate all VM Datastores Consolidate CRM VMs on separate LUN Storage Move all other app VMs to other LUNs Consolidate all CRM VMs to same LUN Document all LUN properties Jenn to do this slide Replication Management Storage Team Configure all replication pairs and entities Verify replication status On going replication monitoring Remote Storage Ensure sufficient space for replica Ensure sufficient space for replica Allocate LUNs in replica with same properties Allocate space for all replicated VMs

Introducing Zerto Virtual Replication Virtual Aware, Software Only, Tier-1, Enterprise Class Replication & Recovery Purpose-built for virtual environments Jenn Zerto Virtual Replication is the only BC/DR solution for virtualized tier-1, enterprise class applications and the cloud. Virtual aware – protect VMs and VMDKs, not LUNs [Replicate between any type of hardware, SAN to NAS, etc] Software only – integrates seamlessly into environment – no additional hardware, software or configuration changes need to occur Yet, delivers BC/DR ideally suited for Tier-1, enterprise-class environments Very low RPOs and RTOs with continuous, block-level replication VM-level consistency groups for application consistent replication and recovery Point-in-time recovery to recover from logical corruptions – like a dropped database table You have the strength of a SRDF or RecoverPoint for the replication, plus all the automation of SRM, for a complete, BC/DR solution fully integrated into your VMware vSphere or vCloud environmennt.
