1 Read Across America Day
Welcome Dea parents!

2 What is Read Across America?
NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. (113th Birthday/ Passed at the age of 87 in 1991) Hold up Green Eggs and Ham and Cat in the Hat books

3 READING WORKSHOP STRATEGIES for 3rd Grade
READERS UNDERSTAND A STORY BY… Making a prediction about what might happen next in the text, based on… What has already happened and… Empathizing with the characters At this point you would model what that looks like to parents. You would have a book and show them how to readers understand a story. Tell them that students use all of the strategies on the bookmark but today you are just going to focus on these two highlighted in red. Bring a parent volunteer up. Ask them to be your partner. Have a book available. Read a page or two aloud and make a prediction with your partner based on what has already happened while empathizing with the characters.

4 READING WORKSHOP STRATEGIES for 4th GRADE
READERS OF HISTORICAL FICTION… Fit the pieces together WHO? WHAT? WHERE? WHEN? WHY? HOW? At this point you would model what that looks like to parents. You would have a historical fiction book and show them what strategies readers of historical fiction use. Tell them that students use all of the strategies on the bookmark but today you are just going to focus on these highlighted in red. Bring a parent volunteer up. Ask them to be your partner. Read a page or two and together identify the who, what, where, when, why, and how? Perhaps even record your findings on a sticky note.
