8 What component is missing?
In the story, “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant”, there were a bunch of times the author used the setting to establish the mood. An example of that is in lines 10-16, when the main character goes outside 10 min. early to prepare the board. The mood had a romantic feel. Another example was in lines When the author was explaining how the moonlight was shinning on Shelia, the mood seemed, kinda enchanted. What component is missing? How does not having this component affect the paragraph?

9 What is this writer saying about Mood?
The author uses setting by telling where he is and the time of day. The author also states a setting, “There was a summer in my life when the only creature that seemed lovelier to me than a largemouth bass was Sheila Mant,” telling us its in the summer. The author also says or mentions the fish and the girl, the narrator is telling us the mood between those characters. The boy cuts the line for the girl and gets nothing out of the girl. What is this writer saying about Mood? How does not having this component affect the paragraph?

10 Line 10 & 11 “She would spend her days sunbathing on a float my uncle Sierbert had moored in their cove and before July was over I had learned all her moods. The author establishes mood by the narrator stalking Shelia Mant. He really likes her, he wanted to show that But in the end he regrets letting the fish go and keep the girl, which then rides home with another guy in a Corvette. What component is missing? What is the writer telling us about mood? How does not having this component affect the paragraph?

11 Topic sentence Example + Citation Explanation
In “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant,” the bass the narrator caught was very large. While the narrator rowed to Dixon, the fish leapt out of the water and “landed with a concussion heavy enough to ripple the entire river” (Wetherell ). This shows that the bass was large enough to cause a huge ripple effect in the water. Furthermore, the narrator points out that the bass drew “a fully loaded canoe backwards” (Wetherell 151). Only a very large, strong fish could draw a boat carrying two people up the river, so this again shows that fish must have been large. Concluding sentence—what would you write?? Topic sentence Example + Citation Explanation

12 Conflict Write a paragraph in which you analyze how the central idea of the story reflects the unit theme of “your place in the world.” Begin with a topic sentence, use evidence from the text to support it, and a have an effective conclusion sentence. Skip lines as you write.
