Define a computer system Teacher lead activity
What is a computer system? Define a computer system Teacher lead activity Ask your students to complete an activity either by asking each other, drawing on desks, snowballs – however you want to do it. Get them up out of their seats and discussing it.
3
Draw a computer system Draw a computer system
Get the students to draw a diagram of a computer system. It doesn’t matter what it is, you want to judge what they think a computer system is made up of. The next slide will show you what a computer system actually looks like.

What is a computer system?
Input CPU(Process) Output Backing Storage Some computer systems may also have other options….. Can you think of something which may be missing. You’re now going to explain to the students that a computer system is made up of INPUT CPU (process) and OUTPUT. They also have backing storage devices. A computer system can be anything, for example you might have an Ipad, Phone, XBOX The item missing : communication devices – think about wifi / dongles / network interface cards

Publisher Task 1 : - Think about the aspects of design we talked about on your previous poster. Using your feedback, you need to focus on creating a new poster which describes a computer system and the terms: Input / Process / Output / Backing storage What is our success criteria?
11
Functional Skills Success Criteria
Come up with your success criteria as a class – I’ve modified this powerpoint so that you can type into it as a class.
12
Moving on to Microsoft Word
Task 2 : - Set up a letter to a computing firm (research the address) Write to the company explaining that you’ve run out of a number of input, output and storage devices. Write a list of the devices and ask for a quotation of the prices. Once you have produced your letter, your teacher will tell you how they want to receive the work.
