3 ‘Beginning, Not the End’

4 Value Propositions Data in its purest sense is not very useful.
End-users must be able to correctly interpret the information and use the information properly. It must be defined, aggregated, and organized in such a manner for stakeholders so that it becomes useful and relevant information. Value Propositions

5 Data reports should be used to support and inform change and improvement.
Only through the proper use of this information can an institution gain (and retain) knowledge that can be used to improve institutional outcomes. Value Propositions

6 Where we were… Two-to-three weeks to complete a data request
Discussions became stale Arguments over the data definitions New questions once data is received take another two-to-three weeks to get answered Where we were…

7 SPC exemplified the ‘data-rich, information- poor’ institution.
Staff need timely information for decisions to maximize student success. SPC needed to leverage data from across the College by linking multiple data systems and elements in one reporting interface. Note for #2: SPC collects and stores thousands of data elements at the institution, yet it has various polices, procedures, and software related mechanisms in place that restrict (or even at times prevent) the use and access of data.   Where we were…

8 What is Business Intelligence?
The intent of BI is to provide timely, relevant, and valid information to stakeholders in an easy-to-interpret format in order to support sound decision-making and drive performance improvement. What is Business Intelligence?

9 Business Intelligence implementation originated at SPC.
Being implemented in several Florida State Colleges. Configurable. Data Dictionary is used to create data warehouse and is driving refresh operations. Source System agnostic. Input files are all CSV files. What is PulseBI?

10 Allows quick access to information required to make decisions.
Provides standardized information with the ability to look at data measures through multiple views [One Source of the Truth]. Enables users to ‘drill-down’ to student-level detail and ‘roll-up’ to program, campus , and college-level perspectives. Where we are now…

11 Current System Architecture

12 Current System Challenges
Current implementation requires administrative and development knowledge of various technologies: SQL Server, SSAS Server, SharePoint / Performance Point. Some colleges do not have people and skills. SharePoint BI tools & PerformancePoint not being developed for the future. Current System Challenges

13 Why Move PulseBI to Azure?
Disaster recovery & high availability are baked in to the Azure data platform. Scale up & scale out is much easier to implement Utilization of Power BI. Microsoft is putting lots of effort into building Power BI capabilities. Why Move PulseBI to Azure?

14 Why Azure?

15 Digital transformation
Engage your students Transform your products Digital transformation One of the themes for the Moving the Needle conference is Disruption through digital transformation. Digital transformation is shaping how institutions plan for innovation and growth within their markets. The importance of digital transformation is urgent; Since 2000, 52% of Fortune 500 companies are gone due to digital disruption. We see educational institutions responding by creating digital strategies across four core areas: engaging their students, empowering their employees, optimizing their operations, and transforming their products. Everyone is aware of how important this is. We have to engage with our students and new and changing ways because our students are changing. Empower your educators Optimize your operations

16 Hybrid Productive Intelligent Trusted
In order to satisfy the demands of keeping up in the modern world, the modern educational institution needs a platform that has these four qualities. This is the unique value proposition that Microsoft offers with Azure.

17 Microsoft Azure Hybrid Productive Intelligent Trusted
Microsoft Inspire 9/18/2018 8:04 AM Microsoft Azure These 4 pillars represent the main value proposition for what differentiates Azure from the competition. As you can see in the proof points, these are the reason why customers choose Microsoft, because of the unique value that we provide in a hybrid, productive, intelligent and trusted cloud. 18 Data Warehouse: SQL Server moved to Azure instead of being on premise.
Data Marts: using SSAS Tabular model instead of Dimensional model. Only Tabular model is supported in Azure cloud. Dashboards: using Power BI instead of SharePoint and PerformancePoint. PulseBI in Azure
