1
Organization of Cells in Living Things – Ch. 7-3
2
Unicellular vs. multicellular
Uni = one celled organism Examples: bacteria, protozoa, many algae and some fungi. Multi = many celled organism Examples: humans, cats, dogs, plants, and spiders.
3
Tissues Groups of cells organized for a specific function.
Examples: epithelial, connective, adipose, bone, cartilage, blood, nerve, and muscle.
5
Epithelial Tissue Cover the body surfaces and line cavities and organs. Examples: skin and glands.
6
Connective Tissues Support and bind tissues and organs together
Examples: bone, tendons, and ligaments. Tendons = muscle to bone Ligaments = bone to bone
8
Muscle Tissues Specialized for contraction and shortening. 3 types
Smooth = stomach, intestine, blood Skeletal = attach to bones for movement Cardiac = heart
9
Organ vs. Organ Systems Organ = groups of tissues together
Organ System = groups of organs together (Ex. Shoot System – plants)
