Cell Organization Team Work!

How it comes together: The human body consists of many different types of cells that each carry out a specific function. A group of similar cells form a tissue, and the cells making up that tissue carry out the same function. Two or more types of tissues working together form an organ. Several organs that have the same function make up a system. Each system in our body has its own job. By working together, these systems make up the human body and keep us alive!

In other words: Cells  Tissue  Organs  Organ Systems  Human Body

Cell Definition: Smallest working unit of life that serves a specific job or function.

Tissue Definition: Made of several cells similar in structure and function that work together to perform a specific job.

Organ Definition- Made of similar tissues that work together to perform a specific activity

Organ System Definition- Groups of one or more organs working together to perform a specific activity

Organism Definition- Entire living thing that carries out all basic life functions.

How are Cells Specialized; Structure and their Function

Sperm Cell Uses its tail, or flagellum, to swim rapidly to an egg cell during reproduction.

Nerve Cell Transmits messages.

Muscle Cell Stretch and contract, causing body movements

Red Blood Cell Carries oxygen and carbon dioxide.

Cones Cells in the eye that can detect color.

Brain Cells The nerve cells in the brain transmit, receive and interpret messages.

Nerve Cells in the Skin Special receptors that can detect cold and heat.

Rods Cells in the eye that can detect black and white

Cells of the Small Intestine
Absorb nutrients.

Skin Cells Form a protective body covering.

How does it all come together? Cells Tissue  Organs  Organ Systems

Body Systems Skeletal- Protects vital organs,
gives our shape, allows us to move

Circulatory- carries oxygen and nutrients to the cells, waste materials are carried away, carries hormones and antibodies

Muscular- allow us to move,
made up of tissues that expand and contract, attached to bones by tendons

Nervous- allows the brain to communicate with every part of the body, allows us to see, hear, smell, taste and touch

Respiratory- takes in oxygen, releases waste gasses

Immune- defense mechanism against illness

Digestive- converts food
into energy, packages and transports wastes

Reproduction- produce egg and sperm cells and hormones, nurture developing offspring

Endocrine- Glands create hormones that regulate processes such as growth, reproduction and nutrients
used by body cells.
