Encapsulation Process
When a host transmits data across the network, the data undergoes encapsulation
Each layer wraps the data with protocol information before being passed to the lower layer – referred to as Protocol Data Units
Each layer communicates only with its peer layer on the corresponding node

De-encapsulation Process
Each layer receives its portion of the data from the layer before.
After the data is processed, the PDU / encapsulation is stripped off and the remaining data is handed up to the next layer.
