Background of PEPFAR Program in Nigeria
Presentation Outline Background of PEPFAR Program in Nigeria Previous challenges with Program Data Use Introduction of Geospatial Application to PEPFAR program Benefits of GIS Application in PEPFAR Program in Nigeria Way Forward in GIS Application 9/18/2018 FOOTER GOES HERE
3
Background of PEPFAR Program in Nigeria
Nigeria - Estimated population of over 180 Million 37 States plus FCT with 784 LGAs Estimated 3.2 Million PLHIV PEPFAR activities commenced since 2004 Initially implemented in all states Initiated priority coverage strategies in 2014 Strategies called for increased need for program evidences/information 9/18/2018 FOOTER GOES HERE

Initial Data Quality Issues with Programmatic data (Much improved now)
Previous Challenges with Effective Use of Data for Improved PEPFAR Programming Initial Data Quality Issues with Programmatic data (Much improved now) Inconsistent National HIV Epidemic estimates Poor understanding of SNU epidemic distribution Limited or no geospatial data to support PEPFAR programming 9/18/2018 FOOTER GOES HERE
5
Introduction of Geospatial Application to PEPFAR program
With increased robustness of COP, need for more robust and data-driven/evidence based programming strategies Increased need to Understand the true or best estimates for HIV epidemic in at SNU levels. Map PEPFAR coverage and contributions to National HIV campaign Map areas of unmet needs to prioritize PEPFAR resources at SNU levels for improved results Map PEPFAR treatment sites and other services to match distributions with outcomes Map transmission hotspots to integrate to the overhauling strategic restructuring with HIV Service locations 9/18/2018 FOOTER GOES HERE

Benefits of GIS Application in PEPFAR Program in Nigeria
Improved COP and strategies with better geospatial understanding of our programmatic data Improved targeted interventions Identify HIV transmission patterns, and distribution of HIV seropositivity yield across the supported LGAs Geospatially mapped infections to identify “hotspots” Patient mobility tracking for cluster structuring Inform prevention and treatment service spread Improved redistribution of laboratory services for such as GeneXpert and PCR services for optimized utility 9/18/2018 FOOTER GOES HERE

CHALLENGES IN USING GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM
GIS Software and Training Data concerns– Structured, adequate and accurate data on the disease Lack of Standard GIS Methodology for advanced geospatial statistical analysis Limited or no GIS data collection tools Limited geographical disaggregation of program data 9/18/2018 FOOTER GOES HERE
17
Way Forward in GIS Application
Multiple licensed copies of GIS software Self-paced training package on GIS application Integrating geospatial information in regular programmatic reviews Building more capacity to explore advanced geospatial analysis of programmatic data in monitoring performance Update our geospatial systems and software for improved use. Using GIS to track mobility of PEPFAR supported equipment and service machines and monitor contributions in the area. 9/18/2018 FOOTER GOES HERE
