2 Morning Prayers - Tuesday
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN (Join me in offering our day to God.) My God, I thank you for the gift of another day to praise you. I offer you all my prayers works, joys, and sufferings today. Amen. (Let us ask the angels for their intercession on our behalf) Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom His love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light to guard, to rule and guide. Amen. St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host - by the power of God - cast into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. (Let us pray.) Dear Heavenly Father, grant me the grace to know the difference between right and wrong, and the courage always to do what is right, Through Christ, our Lord. AMEN  In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN (Please stand for the pledge) I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

3 What law gave Native Americans tribal sovereignty? When?
Indian Reorganization Act – 1934 – attempt to revitalize tribal governments, promote tribal welfare, and preserve Native American cultures. Reversed the Dawes. Though well-intentioned, it forced Native Americans to vote and write government constitutions which broke down their own traditional ideas of government. Self-determination – 1968 – several laws were passed to allow tribes to govern themselves. 2. What laws tried to get them to assimilate? When? 1934 – began forced assimilation, lasted for 50 years Dawes Act – 1887 – banned traditional language and culture, forced them to go to schools and convert to Christianity, broke up tribes by forcing individual ownership of land 3. What law gave them American citizenship? When? Dawes Act – gave citizenship to Native Americans who took up private land ownership Indian Citizenship Act – 1924 gave citizenship to Native Americans who weren’t already citizens
