October Vocabulary October Language Activities bonfire, frost, hayride, haystack, squirrel, cider, apples, Halloween, autumn, rake, pumpkin, scarecrow, costume, chilly, leaves, trick or treat, orchard, corn, scary, jack-o’-lantern, harvest, fall, acorn, Columbus Day Vocabulary practice: discuss what each word means, see if you can find an example/picture of each word in your environment, in a book, on line, on TV. have your child use the words correctly in sentences. discuss why that word is an “October word.” make sure your child pronounces the word correctly. discuss what other words would be good for October. Go outside and find leaves (off the ground) of different colors, shapes, and sizes. Have your child identify the different colors, shapes and sizes of the leaves. Gather 2 of each leaf kind and match them. Hold the leaves and feel them, are they rough, smooth, or bumpy. Discuss what kind of things people can do with leaves. Play catch with a football. While playing, discuss the color, shape, size, and feel of a football. Discuss what you can do with a football. What kind of clothes does a football player where. Why does he wear those clothes? Have your child use his/her best speech when answering the questions and use complete, grammatically correct sentences. October Articulation Social Skills: Asking Questions With 3 or more people, have one person turn to the person on their right. One of the two people secretly focuses on something in the room (e.g., the clock) and gives a clue, such as, “I’m thinking of something on the wall.” The other person asks questions (e.g., “What color is it?” or “Which wall is it on?”) until he/she guesses the object. Name 3 animals that have your speech sound. Take a walk outside, name 3 things you saw with your speech sound. Name 3 sports that have your speech sound.
