1. Subject + Action Verb + Who? Or What? = Direct object

Subject- who or what is doing the action of the sentence
Action Verb- the action the subject is performing in the sentence
Direct Objects- a noun or pronoun that receives the action of a verb or shows the result of the action. Only an action verb will have a direct object.
Use the following “formula” to find a direct object:
Subject + Action Verb + Who? Or What? = Direct object
EXAMPLES 
Hans studied the math assignment for an hour.
Subject- Hans Verb- studied
Hans studied who or what? Math (direct object)
After school, Joel practiced the cello.
Subject- Joel Verb- practiced
Joel practiced who or what? cello (direct object)
