1 Two and Three Dimensional Figures
Polygons Two and Three Dimensional Figures

2 Two-Dimensional Polygons

3 1. Polygons Closed plane figures that have three or more line segments called sides.

4 2. Plane Figure A two-dimensional figure with length and width.

5 4. Quadrilateral A four sided polygon. Quad means 4. 4 sides, 4 angles, and 4 vertices,. Side 1 Vertex 1 Vertex 2 Angle 1 Angle 2 Side 4 Side 2 Angle 4 Angle 3 Vertex 4 Vertex 3 Side 3

6 Types of Quadrilaterals:
Rectangle A quadrilateral with 4 right (90 degree) angles, opposite sides parallel and equal in length. Rhombus A four-sided polygon having all four sides congruent, opposite sides parallel, and no right angles. Copyright Oswego City School District Regents Exam Prep Center

7 Four-sided polygon with opposite sides parallel; no right angles.
Types of Quadrilaterals: Square A four-sided polygon with all sides the same length; four right angles. Parallelogram Four-sided polygon with opposite sides parallel; no right angles. Copyright Oswego City School District Regents Exam Prep Center

8 A four-sided polygon with only one pair of parallel sides.
Types of Quadrilaterals: Trapezoid A four-sided polygon with only one pair of parallel sides.

9 5. Other Polygons: Pentagon Hexagon
“Penta” means 5. This is a 5-sided polygon. It has 5 sides, 5 angles, and 5 vertices. Hexagon “Hex” means 6. This is a sided polygon. It has 6 sides, 6 angles, and 6 vertices.

10 Heptagon “Hepta” means 7. This is a sided polygon. It has 7 sides, 7 angles, and 7 vertices. Octagon “Oct” means 8. This is a sided polygon. It has 8 sides, 8 angles, and 8 vertices.

11 Nonagon “Nona” means 9. This is a sided polygon. It has 9 sides, 9 angles, and 9 vertices. Decagon “Dec” means 10. This is a 10-sided polygon. It has 10 sides, 10 angles, and 10 vertices.

12 Yes, it is a polygon. It is a closed figure with straight sides.
Are these Polygons? Not a Polygon (open, not closed) Yes, it is a polygon. It is a closed figure with straight sides.
