There are a number of tools we can use to identify inequality – SIMD, the Community Outcomes Profile tool, etc., and there are various techniques (e.g. maps, quadrant charts, etc.). Four criteria for defining a locality were proffered as a possible starting point for discussion. Intermediate Geographies / Data Zones are helpful from an analytical perspective and in terms of performance measurement. Regeneration Plans and other similar initiatives tend to focus on areas that exhibit multiple deprivation, e.g. Peterhead & Fraserburgh – should we look elsewhere?
