2. Session aims
To know/describe and explain the refereeing and officiating rules for laws 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11
To demonstrate refereeing and officiating laws 5, 6, 7 and 8

5. Law 5, 6 & 7 The officials Fill in the table

6. Law 5 The referee
They enforce the laws of the game and apply the advantage rule where appropriate
Record of all incidents before, during and after game
Stop game when deemed necessary
Caution or expel players guilty of misconduct, violent conduct or ungentlemanly behavior
Allow no others to enter the pitch
Stop game to have injured players removed, signal for game to be restarted after every stoppage, decide that the ball meets with the stipulated requirements

7. Law 6 Assistant referee Similar to those of the main official
Check the 2 minute punishment period after a player has been sent off
Ensure substitutions are carried out properly, and keeping a check on the 1 minute time out;
Maintain their position on the side of the player’s bench.

8. Law 7 Time keeper and 3rd official
Start the game at kick off
Stop the clock when the ball is out of play
Keep check on the time out periods for sending offs
Indicate end of first and second half for the referee
Record time outs and fouls
Record game stoppages, scorers and players cautioned and sent off
Position themselves next to the substitution area

9. Law 8 Game duration There are 2 equal periods of 20 minutes
Clock stops when the ball is out of play
Time can be prolonged for a penalty kick
There is 1 time out per half for each team
Half time has a duration of 15 minutes

10. Law 9 Start of play
A coin is tossed prior to kick off to determine what side kicks off first
The opposing team must wait outside the centre circle
Ball deemed in play once it has been touched
The ball must be kicked forward on the kick off

11. Law 10 Ball in and out of play

A goal is scored when the whole of the ball passes over the goal line, between the goalposts and under the crossbar
Winning Team
The team scoring the greater number of goals during a game is the winner.
If both teams score an equal number of goals or of no goals are scored, the game is drawn.
