(From NYSED) “At every roadshow, we will discuss the data breach as we open the day to make sure our operational CBT districts and schools are well informed. We want to provide an opportunity to hear concerns and talk about security for student data, which is our top priority as we transition into a more technology-present world.” User Access / Accounts DTC’s & Principals – should now have login accounts New Account will need to be created for other user roles not collected from SEDREF Reference: User Roles and Responsibilities –

CBT - Operational Practice Tests
New practice test maybe available the end of this month (January) via Nextera Admin. (From NYSED) New Practice Tests in the Secure Browser, Available End of January We will keep you posted on the release date and announce to the CBT Listserv when the new practice tests are available in the Nextera Secure Browser. The 2018 Nextera Secure Browser practice tests will require new logins this year. You can find last year’s Secure Browser practice test logins in the following articles: How do we access Math practice tests in the Nextera Secure Browser? How do we access ELA practice tests in the Nextera Secure Browser? We will be updating these same articles with the new Secure Browser practice test logins, so you can bookmark those articles—we will provide a green “update” indication at the top of the articles so that you know the new logins are available. The 2017 practice test logins will no longer work when we release the 2018 practice tests on the Nextera Secure Browser. As a reminder, the new practice tests for 2018 that will be released in the Nextera Secure Browser are the exact same practice tests available now in the publicly available online Question Sampler. The benefit is that students will be able to experience the Secure Browser that “locks down” their access to other areas on their computer and does not allow the student to access the internet when testing within the secure browser. We have heard from our schools that this is a valuable experience for students to have prior to sitting for the operational CBT exams in the spring.

ESSA Update On 01/16/2018, NYS’s final State Plan was approved.
Expenditures per pupil reporting and suspensions used for accountability will be implemented in Changes include: inclusion of NYSAA students in the College, Career, and Civic Readiness Index denominator for accountability (Skills & Achievement and Level 2-4 on NYSAA earns CCCR credit) Academic Achievement can only include ELA and math, so separate measures for “Core Subjects” (ELA, math, science, and social studies) will be introduced and a Composite Level will be used to determine TSI and CSI schools Cannot use continuously enrolled tested students for Academic Achievement, but can use them for Core Subject Performance
20
ESSA Waiver Update 1 of 3 waivers approved:
Grades 7 and 8 advanced students may take a Regents math in lieu of the grades 7 and 8 math tests for accountability. Grade 8 advanced students may take a Regents science in lieu of the grade 8 science test for accountability. ELLs in their second year of enrollment in U.S. school may NOT be exempt from using the general ELA assessment for accountability. Students with disabilities may NOT be tested out of grade.
