A little about me... Joined Rossett in 2009
Maternity leave in 2014 returning in January 2015 Joined the iPad TLC on return from maternity leave.
3
Experience with iPads Have been using them since they were introduced.
Socrative, edmodo, educreations, imovie, QR codes PM objective to write a new scheme of work with a focus on ipads. Setting a meaningful target was difficult
4
My Target To use explain everything to enhance DIRT time within lessons. Started to do this just before maternity leave following JLE’s example. Felt that it would enhance my teaching and DIRT time. All pupils can make progress at their own rate
5
Attempt One Voice commentary following an EOUT for Year 10 triple science.
6
Attempt One analysis Making difficult – One evening to make it in with a teething baby that wouldn’t go to bed. Result? All content present but lacking ‘flair’. Worked well in the lesson. Lots of ‘green penning’. Pupils sat silently working away. Progress was obvious. Problems-some students forgot headphones. Not anticipated the gap in timings of different students finishing.
8
Attempt Two Voice commentary following an EOUT for Year 10 double science. Things I did differently- borrowed headphones from the library, provided text books for further DIRT once pupils had finished.
9
Attempt Two analysis Quicker to make and a much more ‘lively’ presentation. Once again, progress was obvious in the classroom. Mixed in terms of student opinion.
11
Attempt Three Lesson on chemical reactions for year 9. Students completed a socrative question at the start, watched the video, performed DIRT, completed socrative question again.
12
End of lesson - “Tell me everything you know about chemical reactions”
14
Attempt three analysis
Socrative response show clear progress Survey monkey response suggest that students enjoyed it any more using the video however during the lesson a lot wanted direct help as well. Video took a long time to create. Was this proportionate?
15
In conclusion... I’ll continue making Explain Everything videos to help with DIRT. The students may find them boring but I think they are very effective-especially on EOUTs The time I spend on them must be proportionate.
