4 IAP Mission Statement As an independent international forum bringing together the world’s academies of sciences, IAP will serve as a platform for member academies to develop mutual collaboration, common positions and actions on global and regional issues of importance to the future of humankind. IAP will also support member academies to enhance their independent advisory capacities, help efforts to establish new merit-based academies in places where none exist, and facilitate the engagement of young scientists in science-based development issues of global significance. adopted Feb. 2013

5 IAP Objectives Provision of high-quality, independent and evidence-based policy advice on global issues Scientific advisory capacity building, science education, including science literacy, science communication Closer collaboration among science academies and other scientific institutions Strategic Plan III, adopted Feb. 2013 IAP Strategic Plan III – mention of Young Scientists C. Achievements during the last three years ( ): Key achievements during SP II that need to be reinforced in the coming three years are: 5. The support to the Global Young Academy (GYA) and the establishment of National Young Academies, where appropriate, as well as the engagement of young scientists in a wide-range of IAP activities. D. Strategic priorities for the next three years ( ): Strategic Plan III will build on and consolidate the above achievements and create new opportunities, under six strategic priorities: IV. Strengthening existing academies and establishing new ones 3. Encouraging member academies to engage young scientists more proactively. 4. Supporting GYA and National Academies of Young Scientists, especially those affiliated to IAP member academies.
