Hot Work Team Members for hot work team: Fire Watch
Team Member(s) completing the work Fire Safety Supervisor The Fire Safety Supervisor’s duties include enforcing the company’s hot work policy, and managing the fire watch. Before authorizing hot work, the Fire Safety Supervisor must ask two essential questions: - Is hot work the only option? - Can hot work be preformed in the area? Work must be prohibited in any area where the hazards cannot be eliminated or controlled.
4
Hot Work Procedure 1. Attempt to seek another method instead of hot work - Search for an equally effective way to solve the problem without using hot work. - If hot work must be completed, acquire Hot Work Permit. 2. Prepare the area properly - Ensure that the area within 11m of the hot work is clean and clear of any potential hazards. - Remove combustible contents from the area or cover with approved blankets or pads. 3. Ensure the functionality and safety of both fire protection and hot work equipment - Make sure the sprinkler system is working properly. - Fire hoses and extinguishers must be available and operating correctly.

Fire Watch Procedure 4. Fire Safety Supervisor 5. Fire Watch
- Completes Part 1 of the Permit and issues part 2 to the person doing the work. - Make sure the fire watch checks all adjoining areas, including above and below the work area during the hot work operation. - Ensure that the supervisor is competent and trained to use extinguishers and how to activate ERT alarm. 5. Fire Watch The Fire Watch reports to the Fire Safety Supervisor. The job of the Fire Watch is to prevent fire, and be ready to respond if one starts. Duties: During the work the watch must be present at all times and ready to extinguish the fire. They must also identify the nearest ERT pull station. Never leave the area while work is in progress or during breaks unless relieved by a qualified replacement Stop the hot work if dangerous conditions develop After work- For one hour the fire watch must watch the hot work area continuously. The watch must sign the upper box of the fire watch signoff on the permit. Final Check-up – After three hours- The area must be monitored and found fire safe.
