Grade 11 Canadian History

Silent Reading/News Sometimes at the beginning of class we will have 5-10 minutes of silent reading. This will help start the class nice and quietly. Every few days we may also watch 5-10 minutes of the local news to keep us informed on local/world events or play some Canadian Trivia type games.

Attendance/Lates Please be on time: This really has to do with politeness and responsibility. If you are late, you are responsible for catching up on anything you have missed without disturbing the class or other students. If you miss the class, you must contact me to find out what you missed – either in person or by (see teacher weebly site at I also have a weebly site thawryluk.weebly.com I appreciate s/phone calls - will arrange homework pickup for extended absences Let me know well in advance of trips, etc.

Supplies Binder with lots of paper!
Pen (Blue and Red), pencil, ruler, pencil crayons Text: must be left in class each day. If you do not finish the days work, take pictures with your cell phones of the pages that you need.

Homework . . . I promise . . . Expect homework regularly
Homework will be checked at regular intervals because a good set of notes will help you to be successful in the course (you will be able to use them for your exam!!!) If the class is meeting homework expectations I will try to promise no homework on Fridays It is up to you !. . .

Due Dates/Deadlines All work must be handed in on time (assume it to be due the next day unless otherwise told) There are due dates for a reason! Also, assignments will not be accepted once the assignment has been handed back to the class. If you wish to hand it in you must work on it in my presence. (lunch or spare) Parents will be called/ ed All work must be done - an incomplete (0) will be awarded to a student who fails to complete major assignments

Variety is the key . . . HTC’s will be assessed through a variety of methods including: Textbook questions/reflections/responses Projects/Oral presentations Written assignments – Article summaries, reviews, essays . . .

It’s simple Be nice And come to class prepared and on-time.

Cell Phones, MP3’s, electronics
Must be turned off in the classroom and put away into the “Cell Phone Rest Area” out of respect for myself and those around you. (If there is ‘work time’ you may listen to it quietly then) First- taken away until the end of class Second- taken away until the end of the day Third- taken to office- Admin/Parents
