State the reactants and products. Where does cellular respiration take place?

4 How is the energy in food released for our bodies to use?
Digestion: process by which our bodies break what we eat into small, nutrient rich molecules along with waste products. Cellular Respiration: breaks down these small food/nutrient molecules & provide energy in the form of ATP for the cell & organism to go through all other life processes.

1. Energy is extracted from glucose & broken down into simpler compounds. 2. This energy is stored as ATP.

8 There are two types of Cellular Respiration:
Anaerobic Respiration Description: Respiration that occurs without oxygen. 2 ATP molecules form. Aerobic Respiration Description: Respiration that requires oxygen. 36 ATP molecules form.

Lactic Acid Fermentation Alcoholic Fermentation Animals can enter this cycle Pyruvic Acid becomes lactic acid This occurs in your muscles when you go through strenuous exercise and do not get enough oxygen. The result is cramping and fatigue in the muscles. Yeast, bacteria, and plants can enter this cycle. Pyruvic acid is broken down to carbon dioxide and ethyl alcohol Once sugar is used up alcohol level is fixed.
