2 BACKGROUND In October 2010, FMCS integrated HIV testing into the Department of Motor Vehicles in Washington DC Dedicated project staff promote and offer HIV testing to 100% of individuals accessing services at the DMV HIV testing is conducted in a private office and individuals testing preliminary reactive are offered immediate same day access to medical care and support services The primary goals of the program are to promote and increase access to HIV testing services among District of Columbia residents and increase of the number of residents who know their HIV Status

3 RESULTS Total Tested: 8998 (Oct-Jun 2012) Total Positive: 49 (.5%) 80% Linked to Primary Care and Support Services Total Tested

4 CONCLUSIONS HIV testing in high volume non-clinical settings is a feasible strategy and may reach those who have never tested before Replication is possible in similar public sites, taking into consideration: The HIV prevalence in the area The number of people that the organization serves The average wait-time (30 minutes is ideal) to receive needed services Available space that is appropriate for providing HIV testing services A controlled entrance and exit process A well developed linkage to HIV care process is essential
