The Epic of Gilgamesh was written between 2700 B.C and 600 B.C.
It was originally written on 12 clay tablets.
It was published for the first time in 1872, and the first complete English translation was published in 1930.

4. What is this story about?
The Epic of Gilgamesh is a story about the king of Uruk. He was two-thirds god and one-third man. Even though he was strong and wise, he feared death. After his friend died, Gilgamesh set off on a journey to find the secret of eternal life.

This story is a long epic poem that tells about a hero going on a long journey and facing many dangers in hopes of overcoming an important obstacle or goal in their life.

6. Who wrote it?
The original authors of the stories that create the poem are unknown.
The latest, most complete version so far was written by a Babylonian author named Sin-Leqi-Unninni.

7. What is the historical significance?
The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest work in literature.
It is believed that Gilgamesh has an account of the flood of Genesis from the Holy Bible.
