Ch and 14.2 Gas Laws
2
Gas Pressure Gas pressure = collisions
3 factors that affect gas pressure:
3
1. Number of molecules The more molecules = more (higher) pressure
4
2. Temperature Increase temperature increases Kinetic Energy which increases pressure (more collisions)
5
3. Volume Increase volume DECREASES pressure
6
Gas Laws (don’t copy, just read)
4 laws that compare Pressure, Temperature and Volume 3 of the laws only compare 2 at a time. Boyle’s Law, Charles’s Law, Gay-Lussac’s Law 4th Law compares all 3 variables. Combined Gas Law
7
Boyle’s Law Pressure and Volume are inversely proportional. P1V1=P2V (temp is constant) Increase pressure = decrease of volume
8
Charles’s Law Temperature is directly proportional to volume. (pressure is constant) V1 = V2 T1 T2 Increase temp = increase volume
9
Gay Lussac’s Law Temperature is directly proportional to pressure. Increase Temp = increase Pressure (Volume is constant)
10
Combined Gas Law P1V1 = P2V2 T1 T2
Use this equation for all 4 Gas Law Problems. Cross off unneeded variables. Temperature MUST be in KELVIN!!!!!!!!
