Ideal Gas law By Tom, Sam, Karli and Laura

2 What is the Ideal Gas law?
The Ideal Gas Law is defined as: A Physical Law describing the relationship between measurable properties of an ideal gas. Where PV=nRT. P=Pressure V=Volume n=number of moles T=temp R=gas constant

3 Ideal Gas equation PV= nRT P= Pressure V= Volume n= # of moles of gas
T= Temperature R= Gas constant

4 Equation Explained

5 Equation Continued

6 Convert to Kelvin For the equation, you need the temperature in K. To convert to Kelvin, follow this formula. Celsius T(c) = T(k) Ex. 50°c = °k Fahrenheit T(K) = (T(°F) )× 5/9 266.48°K = (20°F ) x 5/9

7 Example Equations P=256 mmHg V= ? m= 5.0 grams (we need to convert)
R= atm/mol T=35 Degrees Celsius So, our first step would be to convert grams to moles. Let us go over this again, the given over 1, then one mole over molar mass. What is the molar mass of Neon? M.M. of Neon: Now, convert Celsius to Kelvin The next step would be to do the math to get the volume of container. Remember the following equation when doing these problems: PV=nRT

8 Life Applications The Ideal Gas Law provides important information regarding reactions, like the combination of gases; stoichiometry, the gas produced in a reaction; physical processes, like the mixing of gases; and thermodynamic processes, as well as the density of gasses. The ideal gas law can be used by engineers to determine the capacity of some containers. It can also be used to find out the efficiency and standard operation of some equipment.
