1 CCSD Transportation Department
School Board Report

2 It starts with great people…
~90 bus drivers and bus aides 3 full time mechanics/service techs (1/2 time fueler) Sandi Swanson – Administrative Assistant Kris Hartgrave – Operations Manager Quinn Wolfe – Director of Transportation

3 2017-18 Routes and the Fleet: 40 regular education routes
14 lift bus, van, Edge, Four Oaks, and Prairie Delta routes (1 new lift bus route added this year) Six daily van routes for HS, Point, Transition Center Six AK routes Numerous trips and activities on a daily basis 53 regular education buses and 10 lift buses 12 mini vans and 4 cargo vans 79 total vehicles in the fleet

4 Bus Referral Data:

5 Ridership Data:

6 Annual Cost Data:

7 New for the 2017-18 School Year:
Four new route buses and one new lift bus (New lift bus purchased w/ grant $) New PM pick-up procedure at Point New AM drop-off location at Ridge New AM drop-off procedure for 2nd route “The round-a-bout”

8 New 2018 Route Bus:

9 PM Pick-up at Prairie Point:
*We now bring 35 buses to load at Point rather than 21 buses as we have done in years past. *This has “cleaned up” the HS loading zone behaviors and made that transition much smoother for 5th and 6th grade students when loading in the afternoon.

10 AM Drop-off at Ridge: *We now utilize the gravel roadway near our transportation bullpen to drop off students at the east Ridge door way in the morning. *Our lift buses still use the front entrance of the building. *This has created two clearly designated drop-off areas for Ridge which now creates uniformity will each elementary building in the district.

11 AM 2nd Route Drop-off: *This year the elementary building drop off locations are scheduled for each route (broken in to quadrants). *This created a much more even distribution of buses at each building, rather than a pile up at certain buildings. Our efficiency and predictability have drastically improved with this change in protocol.

12 How about that Roundabout?!
*The roundabout has worked extremely well in regards to busing. The city has been great to work with throughout this process and the results have been outstanding. *We may want to consider a roundabout at the “Crest/HS and future J St. extension entrance” in the near future. This could dramatically help the AM/PM congestion at this intersection.

13 Anticipated Growth/Development:
Fairfax 80th St. Addition (500+ homes) 100+ current buildable lots Ely Four small additions under construction Two potential larger additions in the near future Walford Little to no growth, less students riding as families age Swisher and Shueyville Some development, but limited, offset with aging families South Side of CR Maintains very consistent ridership numbers

14 As the district grows how will our Transportation needs change?
Immediate Needs (1-2 years): Add routes in the Fairfax and Ely areas Reduce routes in Walford Bring Edge onto the Point/Creek start times Mid-range Needs (2-6 years): A 2nd roundabout at the Crest/HS entrance Loading zone between Point and “New” Creek Consider implementing “walking communities” Long Term Needs (6-10 years): Expand the bus bullpen/parking area Hire a third full time mechanic

15 Thank you!
