Definitions Basement:
Standard –lowest story of a building, which is wholly below ground level. Walkout - part of the floor is above ground, with a doorway to the outside Daylight – Lowest story of a building which is partially below ground level Foundations Slab - concrete is poured approximately four inches thick over wire mesh and a moisture barrier. In areas of load bearing walls, trenches need to be dug to allow for additional thickness at this location. Slab foundations have no piers or floor joists, and the concrete slab is the floor system. Crawlspace used in some parts of the nation to elevate the lowest floors of residential buildings Crawlspeces should be constructed so that the floor of the crawlspace is at or above the lowest grade adjacent to the building. Foundation Material – Concrete, Brick, masonry(concrete block), Caisson (a reinforced concrete pile or post that transfers the load (weight) of the home directly to bedrock!), Wood.

Flooring Types - Laminate -Commonly known as a “cheap version of wood” laminate is truly a workhorse. As a very durable material, this substance rarely fades, is resistant to stains and is pretty simple to install. Hardwood - If you have hardwood floors, you already know its value. It is one of those home improvements that will actually be a selling point if you are about to put your house on the market. This type of flooring, even if it’s old and worn has another positive – you can refinish it. Stone Strong, thick stone used in covering a floor is a choice for the ages. And since it’s nearly indestructible, it’s there for the long run. Tiles Do you have a high-traffic area in your house? Tiles can be a great solution. A benefit over stones are that tiles can be fairly easy to replace. But by-and-large, this type of flooring is extremely durable. Tiles were meant for wet places. Carpet The hands-down softest of all the options is carpet. Being a very popular choice, carpet flooring can be an economical way to cover a room or entire house. Not to say that it’s cheap, there are expensive materials that can be just as costly as hardwood or stone. The patterns, colors, textures and designs make carpet the perfect addition as it can get along with interior. Vinyl composition tile (VCT) is a finished flooring material used very widely in both residential and commercial buildings from the early 1950s into the early 1980s. Carpet Over Hardwood(%)____ Ceramic Tile(%)____ Laminate(Pergo)_____ Other(%)___________ Heating/Cooling Systems: Heating/Cooling: Heating System(Gas, Electric, Oil) - A central heating system provides warmth to the whole interior of a building (or portion of a building) from one point to multiple rooms. Air conditioner is a device that lowers the air temperature. The cooling is typically achieved through a refrigeration cycle (Same Ducts as Heat, Separate Ducts) Evaporative System(swamp cooler) - cooling device that cools air through the evaporation of water. Evaporative cooling differs from typical air conditioning systems which use vapor-compression or absorption refrigeration cycles. Evaporative cooling works by employing water's large enthalpy of vaporization. The temperature of dry air can be dropped significantly through the phase transition of liquid water to water vapor (evaporation), which can cool air using much less energy than refrigeration. In extremely dry climates, evaporative cooling of air has the added benefit of conditioning the air with more moisture for the comfort of building
