2 Philosophy Medical Ethics

3 Moral Transplant Issues
Is it morally acceptable to use transplanted organs to extend a person’s life? Do dead people have rights over the organs in their bodies? If a person did not specify their donor status prior to death, which way should the medical system default? If not, who owns them?

4 Should someone be compensated for the donated organs? Next of kin?
If so, what type of compensation is reasonable?

5 Examine each of these transplant questions from the perspective of the Stoic philosophy. How do your answers change? How would Kant answer? Will universal duty?

6 What do you think about creating a person to create a donor?
In 1990 a woman decided to have a second child to act as a bone marrow donor for her 17 year old daughter who had leukemia

7 Genetics Should your genetic profile remain private?
Insurance companies operate on probabilities, frequently screening out the riskiest patients What would they do with genetic information? Is it right for others to pay higher premiums for the person with genetic problems?

8 Cloning What do you think about cloning? Favorite dog? Organs?
