1
Communication – prepare to learn
Using your homework, write a summary of what you know about em waves and their uses and dangers
2
Communication – prepare to learn
Now we’re going to watch a video, you need to use a different coloured pen to add any new points to the summary you just wrote. Uses of EM waves
3
Communications Using the EM spectrum
4
Objectives To extract information from video clips on how microwaves and radio waves are used in communications (comprehension) To learn how to mind map and design a suitable example (synthesis)
5
Present New Information
radio waves microwaves Your task during these clips is to consider how radio waves and microwaves are used in communications. Consider communications as the sharing of data You should make some notes in the back of your exercise book
6
Sharing of ideas What did you get?
7
Mini-review Let’s practise the song again!
8
Construct – collect a core or challenge sheet
9
Mini-review of objectives
To extract information from video clips on how microwaves and radio waves are used in communications (comprehension) To learn how to mind map and design a suitable example (synthesis)
10
Mind mapping Write the title of the subject you're exploring in the centre of the page, and draw a circle around it. As you come across major subdivisions or subheadings of the topic (or important facts that relate to the subject) draw lines out from this circle. Label these lines with these subdivisions or subheadings. As you "burrow" into the subject and uncover another level of information (further subheadings, or individual facts) belonging to the subheadings above, draw these as lines linked to the subheading lines. Finally, for individual facts or ideas, draw lines out from the appropriate heading line and label them.
11
Make it memorable The idea of a mind map is that you’ll be able to visualise it in your exam – the more images & colours you use, the better it will be Let’s look at some examples….
17
Now it’s your turn Title is ‘the electromagnetic spectrum’
It is NOT a ‘best drawing competition’. It is an opportunity to get your content onto paper in a memorable way Stickers for the best!
18
Time to share Bring them around the front, let’s have a look
Whilst you’re looking at the mindmaps, try to think of things that you would do differently next time.
19
Pick up somebody else's map
On the back draw Next to each star write something good about that person’s mind map Next to the wand, write something that they could improve next time, and how they might do it.
20
Review – complete the learning log
