Community Health Centers grew out of this movement Administered by Bureau of Primary Health Care, HRSA Funding (330 Grant) Regulatory oversight 19 Program Requirements, a few of which are: Needs Assessment Required and Additional Services Sliding fee scale After-hours coverage Governance by a community board

4 Today, CHCs… Are the healthcare homes to more than 25 million, including 1.2 million homeless and 300,000 veterans Located in more than 10,000 communities Reduce healthcare costs, produce savings Integrate critical medical and social services, under one roof Employ nearly 190,000 people and generate more than $45 billion in total economic activity in some of the nation’s most distressed communities Serve on the front lines of many public health crises such as the Zika virus, AIDS and the opioid epidemic

9 Who we serve In 2016, SHS Served 40,000 patients
Provided 191,000 healthcare visits Behavioral Health accounted for 83,000 of those visits (43%). Patient Population Characteristics 65% live below the 200% Federal Poverty Level (FPL); eligible for a sliding-fee discount. 42% are uninsured 36% have Medicaid coverage Demographics African American: 55% White: 28% Hispanic: 16% Other: 1% Missouri patients served by CHCs Approximately 500,000 SHS serves 9% of those

Oral Diagnosis and Pediatric Dentistry Comprehensive, Limited, Periodic Exams, digital radiography, dental sealants, fluoride varnish Periodontics Prophy, Debridement, Scaling and Root planing Operative Amalgam (Silver) fillings, Composite (White) fillings Oral Surgery Simple, surgical, and root tip extractions; Two Oral Surgery residents rotate in from Truman Med Center
