What he discovered As you can see the orange part is the land he discovered!

Where was he born? He was born in a Seaport in Saint Malo

How long did he live? Cartier lived from ! That is 66 years. Which is long for back then.

What did he do before he went exploring?
He was a well experienced sailor.

Why he explored? King Frances I of France sent him to travel along the ocean across North America or the ‘New World’ to China for its riches. He sent him in 1534.

How he got there… He first sailed west to Newfoundland(Canada).
He then entered a gulf in between two large areas of land. He Claimed that land to France. Just before returning to France he saw a waterway heading west. Within the next year the King sent Cartier and some settlers on a voyage to set up a French empire in North America Cartier took over 100 settlers on this trip. After a harsh winter Cartier and the remaining settlers gave up. In 1542 they returned to France. Cartier had staked France’s claim in North America. Sixty years later France had permanent settlers in North America.

Sorry wrong story, Once he reached the Americas he sailed down the St. Lawrence R. hoping to find China sometime along the way. Instead he discovered the end of the river. Woops!

Cartier Watch Grace and Gigi thought Jacques Cartier was in any related the Cartier watch. We were wrong. It was named after a man named Louis Cartier…
