refugee: a person forced to flee for refuge or safety to a foreign country (for example, during a war)
IDP: Internally Displaced Persons (people forced to flee their homes but who, unlike refugees, remain within their country's borders)

To have humility is one of the greatest qualities a person can show, while humiliating others is one of the lowest behaviors.

Definition: A comparison between two things to establish their relationship and further explain them.
Simpler definition: word relationship
Step 1: What is the relationship in the first set of words?
Step 2: Find the same relationship in another set of words.

Most of the analogies in our textbook are very difficult! They are similar to the ones that native English students have to know for our major examinations, and most of these students probably would get less than half of them right!
But do not fear, my friends… in class, we are only going to do a few of the easier ones as a sample, so that you are familiar with the process.

In science, an element (like oxygen) is part of a compound (like water).

16. Reading Skill: Skimming
Skimming is reading for the general idea or the big picture.
6 practical steps for skimming:
1) Read the title.
2) Note the author’s name and the source.
3) Read the first paragraph completely.
4) Read subheadings and first sentences of remaining paragraphs.
5) Look for main ideas, clue words, direction words, and numbers.
