Student success on MCAS is important to teachers, to families, to the district There are multiple variables that impact achievement on MCAS We don’t teach to the test; we teach the standards MCAS is one of many measures of the success of a school, a teacher, a student The 2017 year was unique, full of “firsts”

13 What can we learn from the results?
We look at how students scored on specific standards and ask: How did our students score on that standard compared to the rest of the state? Better or not as well? How did our students across grade levels score on that standard? Is there a trend we can trace to curriculum or instruction? +/- ? How have our students across the years scored on that standard? Is there a trend we can trace to curriculum or instruction? +/ - ? What is the quality and quantity of instruction and assessment for that standard? +/ - ? Do we need to do more with Writing in Response to Reading, with writing to a prompt to generate responses that are clear, thoughtful and complete? What can we learn from the results?

21 Next steps…. We are committed to continual improvement. We are learning from MCAS results, looking at standards and at students. We have many goals connected to teachers having the time to work together to look at data and make teaching decisions based on the data. Throughout the year, our Curriculum Leaders will be sharing goals and plans for their departments. Additional information about MCAS and other assessments will be part of their presentations, as it is connected to goals.
