Zeppelin- also know as a blimp, was used in bombing raids by Germans; also used for aerial observation Tanks- Small, slow and in the beginning it could not cross trenches Planes- First used to deliver bombs but mostly for spying; later they carry guns and used for aerial battle

Guns- could fire multiple rounds and accurately hit targets further away; machine and artillery guns could cause more devastation Navy- Britain’s tactic was to block German ships from leaving port; Germany used subs to attack apply ships Gas- used to attack the respiratory system; caused suffocation, blindness or worse. Weather conditions had to be right for attack to be affective.

FIGHTING BEGAN ON THE EASTERN FRONT WHEN RUSSIA INVADED GERMANY IN 1914. THE EASTERN FRONT SAW MANY VICTORIES FOR THE CENTRAL POWERS 1917- TWO REVOLUTIONS TAKE PLACE IN RUSSIA RUSSIA WITHDRAWS FROM WWI GERMANY NO LONGER HAD TO FIGHT A TWO FRONT WAR.

Followed a policy of not getting involved in the war Americans viewed the war as strictly a European matter U.S. banks were loaning millions in money and arms sales to the Allies. 1916, Wilson prepares the military by increasing soldiers. President Wilson won the election, with the slogan, “He Kept Us Out of War”.

ON MAY 7, 1915 A GERMAN U-BOAT TORPEDOED AND SUNK THE BRITISH LINER NAMED THE LUSITANIA 1,198 PEOPLE WERE KILLED WITH 128 BEING AMERICAN CITIZENS GERMANS CLAIMED SHIP WAS CARRYING WAR SUPPLIES FROM AMERICA THE GERMANS WERE RIGHT!

14 ZIMMERMAN NOTE JANUARY GERMAN FOREIGN SECRETARY ARTHUR ZIMMERMANN SENT A TELEGRAM TO THE GOVERNMENT OF MEXICO ASKS MEXICAN GOVERNMENT FOR HELP SHOULD GERMANY GO TO WAR WITH THE UNITED STATES IN RETURN GERMANY PROMISED TO HELP MEXICO CONQUER STATES OF TEXAS, ARIZONA AND NEW MEXICO

15 MAKING THE WORLD SAFE FOR DEMOCRACY
AMERICANS BEGAN TO FEAR WHETHER OR NOT DEMOCRACY COULD SURVIVE IN EUROPE IF BRITAIN AND FRANCE LOST THE WAR CENTRAL POWERS WERE REGARDED AS UNDEMOCRATIC AND MILITARISTIC PRESIDENT WILSON BELIEVED AMERICA NEEDED TO AID THE ALLIES TO MAKE THE WORLD “SAFE FOR DEMOCRACY” APRIL 6, WITH PRESIDENT WILSON’S URGING CONGRESS DECLARED WAR ON GERMANY

16 PROPAGANDA Propaganda is a form of communication aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position Powerful images like these spread through the US causing many people to change their minds about remaining isolated.
