This is a local year which means we have hundreds of elections throughout the county in the various towns and cities.

Will the Primary move to June next year? Will there be early voting?

Some may not receive assignments for an election. This does not mean you have been taken out of the Inspector pool, and it does not mean we no longer need you.

Single District / Single Machine Multi District / Single Machine Multi District / Two Machines Each configuration has its own treatment when dealing with: 1. Ballots and where they go 2. Morning and evening paperwork

Do not accept them at poll sites. BOE counts absentees a week after the election. If it says ABSENTEE VOTER in the poll book, you may still allow the voter to vote on the machine.

Give a voter an affidavit ballot whenever: … they are not in the poll book (… FIRST CHECK TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE AT THE RIGHT TABLE OR POLLING PLACE. USE THE STREET GUIDE OR CALL THE BOE.) … they are not enrolled in the party for which they wish to vote in a Primary … it appears they are not registered but they insist on voting. Its a good way to avoid a confrontation

NEVER TO BE VOTED ON THE MACHINE!! Be sure the affidavit envelope is properly filled out. Make a note of the stub number in the orange (challenge) sheets. Check AFFIDAVIT on the ballot stub. Put completed affidavit envelopes in the GREEN BAG.

Its trash that you have to save! (Put them in the BLACK BAG)

This can be frustrating. Please calmly work with the voter. Do not dismiss them or tell them too bad! A spoiled ballot still has a lot of voter intent on it. It can be put in the tip-out. It doesnt necessarily have to be cancelled. Call the BOE if you need authorization for a fourth ballot. Ask if the voter needs assistance.

When the voting machine stops working When you are not set up for voters in the morning When a voter has an otherwise-spoiled ballot, but you want their votes to count the best they can.

GOLDEN RULE: Allow media reasonable access while protecting voter privacy and keeping order and fairness in the polling place. I. Privacy – Do not allow photos of ballots or voters filling out ballots. Do not allow photos of ballots being cast. II. Order – Do not allow media to interfere with the progress of voters or Inspectors throughout the poll site. III. Fairness – Do not allow press interviews to be held within the 100 radius.

Poll watchers must be passive. They must have a certificate from: *Candidate *Party Chairman There should be no long conversations with voters. (Normal small talk like Hello, how are you? is OK.) If there is trouble (electioneering) call the BOE immediately. They may approach the Inspectors when no voters are present to ask for verbal information.

VERY IMPORTANT!! You will look for: Seal number from the top of the bag is *5570211* Seal number from the side of the blue bag is *60921* How would you complete this form at the end of the election day in YOUR district?

When you are left scratching your head about something think about these questions: 1. Is it something an affidavit ballot will remedy? 2. Is it something the emergency tip-out will remedy? 3. Is it something a call to the BOE will remedy?

1. Arrival to poll site / setup 2. Checking seals in the AM 3. Remove supplies / power up 4. Open polls – password / ATI 5. Open polls – 0 tape / paperwork 6. Emergency tip-out ballot scanning 7. Close polls – results tape / power down 8. Removing ballots / where they go 9. Power down / remove cards / packing 10. Resealing / closing paperwork 11. Final packing

1. Voter is at the wrong table (This happened a lot in 2012) 2. Affidavit voting #1 3. Affidavit voting #2 4. BMD (special needs ) voting #1 5. BMD voting #2
