What Happened That Day 19 terrorist from mainly Saudi Arabia, had infiltrated the U.S. in the weeks leading up to 9/11. The plot was to hijack 4 planes in teams of five and use them as missiles on iconic American targets. The first three planes hit their intended targets (WTC & Pentagon) and the fourth plane crashed near Shanksville, PA when the passengers rallied together to overpower the terrorists before it could hit its intended target- most likely the White House or U.S. Capitol. Under intense stress and fires burning in the buildings WTC 1 & 2 collapsed around an hour after being struck resulting in 3,000 deaths- mostly first responders.
