NATS Environmental Targets
2008 – NATS is first ANSP to set a specific ATM CO2 Target Reduction of ATM carbon dioxide (CO2) by an average 10% per flight by 2020 (versus 2006 baseline) Equates to 2.49 million tonnes CO2 Same as taking 600,000 cars off the road Or £443m in fuel savings (IATA fuel price Apr 14) NATS PRIVATE

World leading XMAN trial
2014 Arrival Management Aim to sequence aircraft over greater distance Aircraft burn c.90% less fuel than in orbital holds = 15-20kT Fuel savings per annum Supported by Reims, Maastricht, Shannon & Prestwick BAW74 on 21/3/14 first aircraft to use 350nm XMAN validated by Reims DPI data from airports required inside metering horizon World leading XMAN trial

Airport Initiatives Automated taxi time monitoring at all NATS EFPS airports & Manual sampling at remaining units Partnering with airports in the delivery of local solutions to apron and taxi-way congestion E.g. ACDM Departures code of practice Departure splits Since August 2011 tracking CDO and CCO performance and reporting at Airport Units Opportunity for NATS to share FPM data with airlines and airports to help improve fuel planning & descent profiles to reduce noise and emissions

Airspace Design - LAMP Fundamental redesign of London TMA in Phases
Systemised airspace with better use of aircraft capability (PBN) Phase 1 Winter 15/16 – Gatwick & London City arrivals 11-21kT Fuel savings UK Transition Altitude change to 18000ft end 2017 “lifts the lid” on the TMA Final design in 2019 give total LAMP savings 200kT fuel per annum Optimised design enabled via FAS trials
11
Re-writing the CAA/ICAO rules
Departure Enhancement Programme NATS DEP Trials - data to support new FAS design standards Allowing flexibility of design Noise Respite Up to 15% departure capacity gain Allows continuous climb & reduced taxi-time Re-writing the CAA/ICAO rules
12
Flight Efficiency Partnership
Original airline sponsors: Flybe and Thomas Cook Brings together airlines, ATC and flight planning providers Enabled further 19kT fuel savings in FY 13/14 Annual savings now over 58kT per annum since the initiative started
13
Opportunity to do more together to save fuel & costs
Fuel Burn Analysis Optimised Flight Planning Reducing Airline Operating Costs Average 0.5 Tonnes Saved per Flight “Perfect Flight” Saved 11% fuel burn

Summary NATS Set ATM Carbon Dioxide Emissions target in 2008 of 10% by 2020 Going all out for 4% by 2015 – currently at c.2.5% + identified savings = c.3.6% Cumulative Savings 1.3m Tonnes CO2 since environment programme began in 2006 £180m per annum of fuel savings planned from long term investment plan in RP2 ( ) Equivalent to further 276kT Fuel or 880kT CO2 Further savings from optimised ATC procedures & Oceanic
