Materials Incoming materials – increasing while landfilled materials are decreasing Recycled materials – have been pretty consistent through-out the years Reused materials – increasing mostly due to use of clean fill for cover material as well as asphalt and concrete used to construct new roads and processing areas, tire shred used for intermediate cover and road base. Shipping of materials has also been steadily increasing, a lot due to old back logged materials and now not allowing back log to accumulate, shipping materials out as they come in.

Waste Diversion This is the total waste diversion rate encompassing all of our waste steams, keep in mind that the major part of our waste streams is construction material and commercial waste. In a later slide you can see the residential diversion rate for organics.

2015 Highlights Constructed Phase II of the centralized compost pad and graded for Phase III. Large volume of asbestos materials from the Polaris Apartment building. Lowered costs for the contractor snow dump. Cleaned out and rebuilt steel area for new contractor Phone book recycling Utilized tire shred as intermediate cover and trash control in Cell A Curbside compost cart roll out for Niven, School Draw and Old Town areas. Centralized compost pad – we brought the pad to rough grade for the contractor to take over, they completed it. Tires – partly funded by an ENR waste reduction and recycling initiative. Concrete – to use as a new vehicle storage area Snow dump – by maintaining it in house and building ramps to dump off of, we were able to lower costs to users Brush – because we use these materials in our compost we needed to insure that they are at an appropriate quality.

Cart Program Old Town, Niven and School Draw areas received 750 green carts for organics collection in October 2015 Range Lake neighbourhood received 720 green carts for organics collection in November of 2014. Our biggest highlight for 2014 was the curbside collection program, this program rolled out Nov black garbage carts hit the curbs to all single family dwellings in Yellowknife, in addition 720 green carts also went out to the range lake neighborhood for organics collection. The program has had some bumps in the road, with cart damages, non organic materials in green carts but mostly cart placement, so we have been continually working on public education through door knockers, social media, information sessions and reaching out to problematic neighborhoods. Overall the program has been going very well, like in the range lake neighborhood -
