How to write informative/ explanatory texts
Informational/ explanatory writing conveys information accurately. The writer’s purpose is to increase the reader’s knowledge, to help the reader better understand a procedure or process, or to increase the reader’s comprehension of a concept. Information writing begins with the assumption of truthfulness and answers questions of why or how. Writers draw information from what they already know and from primary and secondary sources. They must select and incorporate relevant examples, facts, and details.

How do you become a good writer?
In order to become a good writer, you have to be a good reader. Reading prepares you to respond critically to the ideas of others and to develop ideas of your own.
9
Reading is a two-way street.
Readers are presented with a writer’s ideas but they also bring their own ideas to what they read. Why is this? Readers have a different national, ethic, cultural, and geographic backgrounds and different kinds of knowledge and experiences, so they may react differently to a particular essay or story.
10
Example: A person with excellent morals might not understand a story about a juvenile struggling to be a better person. Can you name any others?

Different reader responses
Just because a reader can have different responses doesn’t mean that a piece of literature can mean whatever a reader wants it to mean. Readers must make sure they are not distorting a writer’s words, overlooking (or ignoring) significant details, or seeing things in an essay or story that do not exist.
